Outdoor Retailer Comp and Party
Twice a year the outdoor retailer show comes to Salt Lake City, drawing in thousands of people. There are a number of cool events and parties that take place, but as a climber my favorite event is the climbing comp. There is a citizen and pro comp, but I only watched the pro finals.
The pro-finals were in the parking lot of the Shilo Inn. Whoever organized the comp must not have been a Utah native because the wall was placed facing west, meaning the wall was in direct sunlight with temps of 90 degrees. The women had the brunt of the heat, but still managed to cruise up the problems.
Me and Mr. Math having a grand old time. We had ridden down on our cruisers with B and his neighbors.

Salt Lake had two local climbers compete: Porscha Menlove and Steven Jeffrey. Here Steven and his Hello Kitty chalk bag are working on problem four.
Daniel Woods on the last problem.
After the comp was the Revolution after party. Good times! Free drinks, music, go-go dancers and climbers everywhere. Pictured are Shaft and I on the dance floor.
Dr. C and Dr. M on the dance floor. Dr. M busted out some madly impressive dance skills.
Trend setters Shua and Ms. Orange hopped on an empty stage and next thing we knew the stage was rockin’ with people.
All beer was served in Mammut beer glasses, which could be taken as a souveneir. We all thought they were great … and some of us stuffed our pockets.
