Stormy day at Solitude

On the lift. The boys are on the next chair.

I headed up to Solitude for a half day of riding with Triznut and The Tobin James. The conditions were better than expected when we started to ride, but as the day progressed a storm blew in. Next thing we knew we were riding up the chair lift, surrounded by thunder and lighting and were told that the mountain was closing down. It was dumping snow, so we slowly made our way down from the summit, enjoying all the fresh lines. By the time we made our way to the bottom the lifts had re-opened for one last run. W00T! We took it, smiling all the way down. We finished out the great day with a classic Garlic Burger and beer at the Cotton Bottom.

Car Talk Mechanic Files

Saturday, March 1st, 2008

PhotobucketWithin the last couple weeks my little Honda has had some hiccups where I had to frequent a mechanic. My usual mechanic is now, unfortunately, retired, so I at first was at a loss of where to take my car. But then I remembered that on the NPR show Car Talk I’d heard mention of their mechanic files where listeners have submitted names and comments of good mechanics. I thought I would see if there were any mechanics listed for the Salt Lake area and ended up with a great handful of results. I picked out a couple and called around to see who had the earliest opening, ending up making an appointment with Clarke’s Automotive.

The car problem ended up being my lil’ Civic needing a new alternator. The shop called me with a quote, fairly priced the piece and labor, and completed the work in the expected time frame. So when my car was having a starting issue a couple weeks later I took it back to Clark’s. They were honest and told me they couldn’t find the source of the problem besides some corrosion. They cleaned the battery off for free and sent me on my way.

I was real happy with my experience and would highly suggest Clarke’s Automotive Shop. They are located on the corner of 17th South and 500 East and their number is 801-485-2858.

St George - President’s Day Weekend

Saturday, March 1st, 2008

The crew headed down to St. George over President’s Weekend in search of sunshine and dry rock. The temps were fantastic, but the walls were a little crowded as apparently all Utah climbers were antsy to climb real rock rather than plastic. The crew consisted of Tall Man GRK, Shaft, BinerBen, BinerTom, MH and I. On top of that we had three pooches: Brodie, Cassie and the Cb-Gbers.

It was yet another great climbing trip full of….

…..Some Dancing

(sorry Tall Man. Once this hit UC.com, I felt in the clearance to post. Plus, it is just such a great video! Please don’t hate me.. smile.)
