Roadtrip Week 16 & 17: Rock Town, Georgia

A couple days prior to Thanksgiving, I moved locations from Rumbling Bald, North Carolina to polar opposite Rock Town, Georgia.  Good bye granite crimps, hello sandstone roofs.  Goodbye sending, hello ass-whoopin’. =)

Issa on The Scoop.

Tommy crushing an extension to Crock Bloc. Awesome.

One of the Ohio boys climbing Turkish Resin.

Eric working The Vagina. He is so close to sending this one.

Joe on a crimpy warm-up near the Hueco Simulator.

Issa on Double Trouble.

Me working Police Brutality.

CB’s first encounter with Balsam.  Um… yeah.

Amy and Trip, from Sheffield, UK. Such a cool couple who I hung out with for quite a few nights, including Thanksgiving.  Our Thanksgiving feast included good pasta, sushi, chips and salsa, wine and Lindt chocolate.  Quite the eclectic culinary mix but it was all so delicious. =)

And, of course, the obligatory picture of the CragBaby.  Here she is soaking up some sun while I worked in La Fayette.

Weird. I'm heading to Rocktown for the first time around Jan. 4 and was googling some info on camping when your website came up. I clicked the link which went to the Rocktown post and scrolled down checking out the pictures. Then, I saw the picture of Amy and Trip and thought they looked familiar and realized who they were when I saw their names. I met them up here in PA maybe a month ago or so, they are super cool and very fun to climb with. Sorry for the long preface but the whole situation was just completely random, the climbing community is so big yet so small sometimes.

If Trip and Amy are still around tell them Matt, who showed them around Haycock in PA, says hi.

Enjoy your road trip, maybe I'll catch you down south in a few weeks.
  • Matt,
Thanks for stopping by the blog. I actually write up trip beta reports for all the destinations I visit. I will be writing up the Rock Town one today. Hopefully it will help you figure out some beta.

As for Amy and Trip, what a fab story! They have left RockTown, but I just emailed the info to Amie. =)
    Happy Holidays.

I LOVE your pictures of CB. She is such a cute dog. Hope all is well! -Jenn
  • Thanks, Jenn. Yep, we are doing great... just bouncing from each bouldering destination. Hope all is well at home.

Lol... that looks like one chill dog of yours!
  • Ummm... yeah. She likes to make it very clear from the beginning that SHE is the alpha dog. =)
  • Ceebs is the cutest ever!!!!
  • Ha ha... thanks! =) Give your two pups a pat on the head for me.
  • Nice Rocktown pics, I so love the climbing there, glad your enjoying it. I only wish there was some kind of pit toilet (it was kind of ewwwww-y there, lots of people with not the best waste disposal plans, and a better road would be cool. Isn't the bouldering there so fun??? Have you found the air hockey table at the rec center? Best time waster ever!
  • Yeah, the climbing is great. It took me awhile to figure out the names to everything and where it really was located as the Dr.Topo guide is horrible.

A pit toilet.. um, yeah! That is definitely needed! Probably one at RockTown itself and one at the campground.

I did find the place with the air hockey. I saw some boys playing but didn't play myself. My rest days are always spent working. Sometimes I wish they could be spent just bumming around... but the income is nice.
Thanks for the comment girl! Hope you are well.
